Say you have an eBook that you want to sell, but you don’t want to turn to expensive software or a paid professional graphic designer to help you come up with a good looking 3D box shot for it. You can do it all yourself with the help of a flexible 3D cover creator tool appropriately named Virtual Cover Creator. With minimal effort you can come up with a beautiful 3D cover for your eBook. And if you have some other products you want to sell, you can create covers for them as well.

The Virtual Cover Creator installation file is 6.3MB in size and that’s not much. You can install the application on 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows 7, Vista, and XP. To install Virtual Cover Creator, just run the aforementioned 6.3MB file and click through a simple setup wizard.

Virtual Cover Creator uses a ribbon interface. This means that there’s a traditional File menu at the top and a ribbon underneath. Based on what you click in the File Menu, what you see in the ribbon changes. The main pane that takes up the better part of the interface presents the project you’re working on. What you see in the pane to the right depends on what tool you select.

To start a new project, the first thing you must do is select what sort of 3D cover you want to create. You can choose one of the following: two sided box, three sided box, book cover, electronic magazine, CD cover, CD/DVD disc, membership card, DVD case, DVD disc and case, special report, thin book, wide box, books in box.

As I mentioned at the start, let’s assume you have an eBook that you want to sell and you need a cover for it. So when you start a new project, select Book Cover from the New Model dropdown menu. You will now get to pick what will be displayed on the front and on the spine of the book. You can fill in the spine with color. Select Fill from the menu in the top left hand corner, pick the color, and click the Spine window. For the front you could use an image. Select image from the same menu in the left hand corner, click and hold down the left mouse button to select the area where you want to add the image, then let go and you will be presented with a dialog that asks you to pick the image you want to use. You can further adjust the image after you add it. Before you save your work or print out the 3D model, you can preview your work.

Because it is shareware, Virtual Cover Creator will put a watermark on the output. So if you use the application to create a box shot for your eBook, it will have a watermark on it. Get a license to get rid of the watermark. You can purchase a license for the Standard or Professional Virtual Cover Creator edition. The difference between the two editions is that Virtual Cover Creator Professional comes with more free templates and lets you create packages and bundles.

You don’t need an expensive Photoshop license nor do you need pro graphic designer skills to create a beautiful 3D box shot. You just need the Virtual Cover Creator application.

Pros

Virtual Cover Creator’s interface is fairly easy to figure out. Choose between multiple templates to start a new project. Preview your work. Use special effects.

Cons

The trial puts a watermark on the output.
